In
the middle of the central highlands of Papua province in Indonesia, formerly
known as Dutch New Guinea, located Baliem valley (formerly called Grote Vallei
or valley Jaya). Baliem
Valley stretches from the northwest to the southeast part of the province of
Papua with a height of about 1650 meters above sea level. Baliem
valley surrounded by the peaks of the mountains with altitudes between 2500 to
4500 meters.
Baliem
was found shortly before the outbreak of World War II and for the first time
detected from the air by foreigners not Papuans. Until
then Baliem regarded as uninhabited areas.
